New Mexico State University, Health and Social Sciences Auditorium, Room 101,
1335 International Mall, Las Cruces, New Mexico, 88003
Presented by the University Art Gallery at New Mexico State University
Join us for a dynamic Q&A conversation between artist Wendy Red Star and curator Michelle Lanteri at the Health and Social Service Auditorium (HSS 101) at New Mexico State University (NMSU) (1335 International Mall, Las Cruces, New Mexico, 88003) . They will discuss Red Star’s exhibition at the University Art Gallery at NMSU, “The Maniacs (We’re Not The Best, But We’re Better Than The Rest),” as well as Red Star’s artistic career and influences and how her work fits within the larger scope of contemporary art. On view from Jan. 26-Mar. 16, 2018 at the University Art Gallery at NMSU, Red Star’s “The Maniacs” exhibition visually materializes and meshes memories of the past and present in her investigation of her Apsáalooke (Crow) Indian father’s life in rock music, a site of familial importance and popular culture that has informed her art practice and individual and collective identities as an Apsáalooke (Crow)-Irish American woman. This event is free and open to the public.
