Border Zones and Liminal Bodies: A Video Art Exhibition took place on March 12th from 10:00am to 6:00pm at the University Art Gallery. This screening features short video art pieces by 12 U.S. and international artists that invite viewers to contemplate contemporary issues, such as migration and refugee crises, disability and the body in movement, feminicide in Ciudad Juárez, water insecurity, and other issues. Border zones are contact zones and these are liminal spaces where the comfort of some bodies are built upon the violence and erasure of other bodies. These videos show the different ways art can engage with the most pressing social issues of our time. There was  a closing ceremony at 6:00pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
This program is the first of two screening events for this year’s Feminist Border Arts Film Festival organized by Gender and Sexuality Studies/Interdisciplinary Studies Department in collaboration with the Creative Media Institute. The main program of the 3rd Annual Feminist Border Arts Film Festival will be held April 16 from 6:00-8:30pm in the CMI Digital Theater.
